Nasal strips range from pennies to well over a pound each. The performance range is narrower than the price range, but it is not zero.
Here is what the money sometimes buys and what it frequently does not.
What you are sometimes paying for
Band quality. The one that matters most. The lift is the mechanism, so a strip whose spring is weak, poorly distributed or loses tension over a night is not doing the job regardless of what it costs. Cheap generics vary considerably here, and some are essentially adhesive bands with a token stiffener.
Adhesive balance. Harder than it looks. It must hold through eight hours of spring tension, skin oil and pillow contact, then release without stripping the thin skin of the nose bridge. Testing you can read. Whether anyone has evaluated the materials against a recognised standard and published the result. Most budget strips have not, and cannot tell you. (What lab-tested actually means.)
Consistency. Batch-to-batch variation is a real problem at the bottom of the market. A strip that worked last month and does not this month is usually a manufacturing consistency issue rather than something you did.
What you are frequently not paying for
Brand recognition. A well-known name reflects distribution and advertising more than engineering.
Packaging, obviously.
"Extra strength" claims, which are only useful if you are spring-limited rather than adhesion-limited — and most people are the latter. (Whether extra strength is your answer.)
Clear versus tan. Cosmetic.
Scented or "with menthol" variants. The menthol produces a cooling sensation that feels like clearer breathing without changing airflow. It is a sensory effect, not a mechanical one, and it is a common way to make a strip feel like it is doing more than it is.
The test that beats every price comparison
A correctly placed strip produces a difference you feel within seconds, awake, sitting on the edge of the bed. Not subtle, not something to evaluate over a week.
So the buying strategy is simple: start cheap. Buy the least expensive strip that has a real spring band, place it correctly, and see whether it works.
If it works and stays on all night, you have your answer and there is no reason to spend more. If it works but falls off, that is an adhesive problem — and better skin prep fixes it more often than a pricier strip does. (Why strips fall off.) If it does nothing, do not trade up. That last case is where most money gets wasted in this category — people conclude the product was too cheap when the product was the wrong category.
Cost per night is the real number
Strips are single-use, so nightly use is 300-odd strips a year. Small per-unit differences compound into something meaningful, and bulk pricing changes the picture more than brand does. (The arithmetic.)

The bottom line
Price correlates loosely with band quality, adhesive balance, published testing and batch consistency — all real. It correlates strongly with brand recognition and packaging, which are not.
Start with the cheapest strip that has a genuine spring band. If it works, stop there. If it does nothing at all, the answer is not a more expensive strip — it is that your restriction is somewhere a strip cannot reach.
